Case study
Tangent
Maths that clicks. Pre-algebra lessons that catch the misconception behind a wrong answer, and fix the idea, not just the answer.
Who it's for
Grades 6–8, especially students who have fallen behind on pre-algebra. Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 courses follow.
What learners do
Each lesson opens with an argument to settle, like two sisters disputing who ate more chocolate. Learners predict, then test it on a model they can cut, pour or slide.
The Primer principles at work
Why it works.
Each wrong answer is tied to a known misconception, like "a bigger bottom number means a bigger fraction", with its own short path back.
Fraction bars to re-cut, a rice scoop for dividing, a lemonade mixer for ratios, a speedometer you can zoom into.
Every line is narrated, with the maths spelled out for speech.
Each lesson lists the Common Core standards and the misconceptions it targets.
Under the hood
"See how it's built" shows the full branch map, every move the learner made, and the standards and misconceptions each lesson targets.
Status. Four lessons are live: variables and order of operations, fractions, ratios and percents, and rates of change.
